I love documenting my life and remembering all that life has to offer. I find joy in looking back at old planners and photos. This year I took that one step further and decided to do a review of each month as well as make a mini collage of some moments that happened throughout the month. I love the process of this and I love all of the creative inspiration I get from this project.
I’ve always been one to love documenting my life whether that was through a planner or even a daily diary. I realized this love only recently when I came across Amy Tangerine. If you don’t know who she is, you need to follow her on Instagram and watch her YouTube videos asap! (Maybe grab a cup of coffee as well because you will be binge watching her videos!)
My goal with the monthly review was to recap the good, bad, challenges and joys of each month. I didn’t have a specific layout or look that was I going for. I googled some monthly review bullet journal layouts and I found one this one that worked from the Sublime Reflection blog. That’s the layout I’ve been using since. It’s been working for me and I like it! If you have any other suggestions on layouts or things I can add, please let me know.
Disclaimer: The pictures and monthly review shown is for April….and it’s June! I had planned for this blog post for awhile but just didn’t get to it (You know that #momlife). So please don’t judge! Even though a few months have passed, you still get the idea of what I’m talking about!
I love that I had free range to use designs, lettering, patterns and colours to create this layout. I used the Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen in grey for the titles. I underlined with a Tombow Mono Edge highlighter in purple. I wrote with the fine tip of the Tombow Twin Toned marker. I decided to outline each section with a ‘cloud’ like shape using the Tombow Mono Edge highlighter. I usually try to use colours that will work together but I also am not afraid to just go with the flow. I think that’s what makes the process so much more fun and exciting!
To add a little more of a fun touch, I added some stickers that I got with my planner. You could also add illustrations, doodles or even designs.
I like to do scrapbooking and memory keeping in a Leuchtturm notebook which is where I also do the monthly reviews in. I love the paper in this notebook! I find that it is really smooth for all of the materials I use. And for us pen lovers, you know that the smoothness of the paper makes a difference for our pens!
To accompany my monthly review, I like to have another page spread where I print some pictures to capture the month’s exciting moments and memories. I’ll go over my process for this in the next blog post as well as share four ways in which you can draw frames around your pictures!
If your looking for a low key project, this may be the next thing you try. All you need is some paper and a pen (and maybe a coffee or two!).
See you in the next blog post!
